Create a simple, at-a-glance view of where you stand right now, so you never have to re-derive it and never have to wonder.
Build a small current-position view you can check any day. This answers "where do I stand today?" in seconds, and that is the antidote to financial anxiety, which almost always comes from not knowing. Keep it simple; a dashboard you check daily beats a detailed one you avoid.
| Current-position item | Where the number comes from | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Cash on hand | Bank and cash accounts | |
| Owed to you (receivables) | Outstanding invoices | |
| Owed by you (payables) | Outstanding bills | |
| How this month is tracking (revenue vs plan) | Profit and loss vs budget |
This reads current state, not trends over time. Watching how your key numbers move across months is a different job, done by the Financial KPI Scoreboard in the last guide. Keep these two deliberately separate: this one is "where do I stand today," that one is "how are the numbers trending."
